Whenever friends come to visit me in Virginia Beach, I get so excited to show them the city I love. It is always such a blast showing off my favorite spots and seeing the city through a newcomer's eyes. Even if you’re a seasoned local, it’s worth it to take the time to be a tourist in your town! And if you’re new to Virginia Beach, well, here are three must-see places you won’t want to miss on your visit here:
With more than 19 miles of hiking trails and beautiful scenery, Virginia’s most-visited state park should earn a spot on your travel list. Don’t feel like a hike? The park boasts 1.5 miles of Chesapeake Bay beachfrontage if you’d prefer to sit in the sand. An oasis within urban Virginia Beach, First Landing offers a range of recreational and educational activities and features several unique habitats, including bald cypress swamps, lagoons, and maritime forests.
Walk on the beach, hunt for shells, and bask in the serenity of nature at Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Established in 1938 to protect and provide habitat for migrating and wintering waterfowl, the refuge is home to hundreds of species of birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, and fish. Its human visitors enjoy many opportunities for outdoor recreation, including hiking, biking, wildlife observation and photography, kayaking, and both freshwater and surf fishing.
Stretching 3 miles from 2nd to 40th Street, this popular Virginia Beach attraction is home to resorts, fine dining, and live music throughout the summer! In the winter, the crowds dwindle, making this the perfect place to walk with an uninterrupted view of the beach. If you get hungry, try Waterman’s famous brunch or the sushi at Mahi’s – it’s sure not to disappoint. And don’t forget to take your picture with the iconic King Neptune statue at 31st Street!
Newcomers to Virginia Beach – which of these places would you want to visit first? And to my locals, what are your favorite places to frequent?
I’m always dropping insider tips on my Instagram, so don’t forget to follow @kristieweaverrealtor if you haven’t already!
